Physio & Sport is a Swiss physiotherapy studio and the owner of a application platform used to communicate between their therapists and patients. However this application had not had any maintenance for 3 years leading it to become at risk of failing new Google Play Store requirements related to deletion of profiles.

In order to ensure continued usage by patients and therapists, the app had to be recertified. However because of the gap in maintenance the entire platform consisting of the application, website and backend had to be revived – a severe maintenance intervention was needed to keep operations alive.

After 3 years of no maintenance and without the original developer being unavailable, no available documentation and virtually everything about the application had to be revived, new libraries implemented and code changes made when the libraries were incompatible.

The solution was to ramp up a small team to progressively investigate and resolve each component of the platform – rebuilding documentation every step of the way for future maintenance tasks.

After redeploying the app to the users, a L2 and L3 support framework was put in place for quick responses.

• Access to the virtual marchine acquired and new development environments built and servers migrated.
• Original code had to be investigated and rebuild instructions recreated by experimentation.
• New library versions installed and build errors incrementally resolved and new software versions integrated.
• The new user data deletion feature required by Google was implemented..
• Mobile applications rebuilt and resubmitted Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
• Documentation rewritten and robust testing and rollout to the users.

After approximately 8 months of work, recertification of the application was complete, users migrated to the servers and the platform was in a maintainable state.
